The Illinois basketball team played one of their worst games in years on Wednesday night against Rutgers.

Illinois basketball needed a spark on Wednesday night, and at times we received that spark.

RJ Melendez was the spark the Illini needed, but sadly, he didn’t get a chance to play much against Rutgers.

One would think after a 14-point performance, in which Melendez was one of the main driving forces behind a victory over Northwestern

he would have received more minutes in the following game. Melendez had a chance to play 17 minutes against the Wildcats

we should probably shoot for that number against the Scarlet Knights, right?

I feel like that is way too much logic, though. None of that happened against Rutgers. In fact, Melendez saw reduced minutes for some reason.

Melendez would only play 11 minutes against the Scarlet Knights, but he would perform well.

He finished the game with 10 points, two rebounds, one assist, one block,

one steal while shooting 2-of-4 from the field and 1-of-2 from the three-point arc. He also made all five free throws.
