Popeyes is selling chicken for 59 cents on its 50th anniversary.

Popeyes turns 50 this Sunday.

At 50 years old, it is offering chicken for less than 1.

Fast-food chain first opened its first restaurant on June 12, 1972.

They will seal their chicken in two for 59 cents.

This coincides with the first time Popeyes was opened 50 years ago.

Popeyes was opened by Alvin C. Copeland Sr in 1972.

He then struggled and named Copeland Popes after Jane Hackman's character Pope Donal in the 1971 film "The French Connection".
